CYPRESS ADVISORY REPRESENTATIVE CASE STUDIES
Investment Management Case Studies
Hedge Fund Clients
Several investment management clients were concerned about the process and messaging from Treasury in regards to the bank stress test process in March of 2009. Through primary research and the Cypress contact network, the firm identified that the release of the results would be a calming and confidence-building event; a view defying the prevailing market consensus that the event would be disruptive. With the firm's intelligence, clients successfully re-weighted their financial sector exposure and market hedges to a more appropriate, bullish stance that allowed them to capitalize when the event proved the consensus view incorrect.
Private Equity Clients
Through its affiliation with Cypress Realty, Cypress Advisory has developed and implemented regulatory strategies for several private equity clients pursuing opportunities in distressed and failed assets. This consulting service helps clients navigate the bank charter process, bank holding company process, and the bank and asset resolution process. All of the regulatory agencies are involved – Fed, FDIC, OCC, OTS and Treasury. Having also consulted on broad asset acquisition strategy, the Advisory team actively helps clients navigate, identify and engage the best-in-class service providers in Washington, DC, as relates to achieving their specific strategic goals.
Corporate Strategy Case Studies
Corporate Client
Cypress Advisory served as a strategic consultant to a software company that wanted to grow its market share in the MBS market. Given the sweeping aim and scope of TARP and the other federal financial bailout programs, the client sought to increase its presence and brand recognition with the appropriate agencies and the GSEs. With the firm's strategic direction, the client successfully positioned itself to win valuable, incremental business.
Trade Association Client
Cypress Advisory was retained by a financial services trade association under new leadership. The incoming management team asked Cypress Advisory to identify key strengths and weaknesses of the organization, as well as present a strategy for improving its member service, advocacy, and communications in Washington, DC. The firm spent four months analyzing the association's business model, interviewing personnel and researching the staffing, operations, and budgets of similar organizations. Cypress Advisory designed a three-year strategy for the client to present to their Board. That plan is currently guiding the managerial decisions shaping the association and its membership.
